For over forty years the United States and Saudi Arabia have had a relationship based on mutual interest: oil and security. The Gulf region will remain critical to U.S. interests globally and no relationship in that region is more important than the one with Saudi Arabia. This relationship remains essential to both. Yet, multiple issues challenge both countries. Amb. Gnehm will discuss the emergence of the Saudi state and explore the historical ties between our two countries and the new challenges both face.

U.S. Policy toward Latin America in the post-Bush Era: Recommendations from Greg Craig, Nora Lustig, Mark Schneider, and Mark Weisbrot
Greg Craig is a foreign policy advisor to Senator Barack Obama. He previously worked for President Bill Clinton as Assistant to the President and Special Counsel, and he was the Director of Policy Planning at the U.S. Department of State during 1997-1998.
Nora Lustig is J. B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Visiting Professor at the Elliott School of International Affairs. Dr. Lustig was President of the Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, Mexico, and Professor in its Department of Economics.
Mark Schneider is Senior Vice President and Special Advisor on Latin America at the International Crisis Group. During the Clinton administration, he was Director of the Peace Corps (1999-2001) and Assistant Administrator for Latin America and the Caribbean at USAID (1993-1999).
Mark Weisbrot is co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan. He is co-author, with Dean Baker, of Social Security: The Phony Crisis (University of Chicago Press, 2000).
